Tongjimen

tongjimen.gif (1440 bytes)

Tongjimen was one of the thirteen original Ming gates and, as such, had a series of three or four courtyards and successive gates, much like Zhonghuamen and Hanzhongmen, which are at least partially standing today.  The gate survived into the 20th century, but was dismantled in the 1950's for traffic reasons.
